friends and Joey

I watched an episode of 'Joey' last night. In it there was a guy called Jimmy. He also played a character in Friends, he was Chandlers crazy room mate, and also, Jennifer Coolidge was in it, and she played Amanda in Friends. Doe's anyones else think it's strange that they are tuninng old Friends characters into new characers for Joey? I mean, it's a spin off, so it's not like when Bruce Willis came into Friends as a Character and they talked about Die hard is it?!....

What tends to happen is that an actor will appear in a series and if the producers like them and are happy with their work they will hire them again.Very often in American series actors will appear as several different characters over the life of the series.Usually they appear in different seasons but sometimes,as in Diagnosis Murder,they can reappear in the same season.

that makes no sense - why would they mention die hard? - bruce willis played a character, not himself!

the reason they occasionally use old characters is to make it seem more real - just because you move away doesn't mean you never ever see anyone you know or have ever met ever again, does it?

a spin off means it is still connected to the old show - otherwise why call it joey?

thats the point she making, cos it a spin off so still part of the same show how can they use the same actor to play a different character.

Anyone notice in Friends that Frank, Pheobe's brother played a bit part earlier in the series?

He playes a bloke who acidently throws his condom in Phoebes' collection tin when she's busking outside Central Perk and comes to get it back.
