a weekend away

Can anyone advise me of where to go for 2 or 3 nights abroad? We have been to prague, venice, amsterdam, dublin and barcelona. So somewhere different would be nice.

The most obvious omission from your list of nice places for a weekend break has to be Paris. Loads to do and see, with great food and wine ;-)

Alternatively, why not spend some time in Belgium? If you're in range of Stansted (or Glasgow), Ryanair have dirt cheap flights to Charleroi. From there, you can travel to anywhere in Belgium for just �21 (�14) return. (Go to the airport ticket desk and buy 'bulk tickets'. These cover the 10 minute bus journey to Charleroi Sud rail station, plus onbound rail travel to any station in the country). Bruges is a delightful city and a great base for exploring. (Ostend is less than 15 minutes away by train).

The Italian Riviera is delightful and easy to access. Just take a cheap flight to Genoa, then a cheap bus to the rail station and an equally cheap rail trip along the coast to somewhere like Rapallo. (It's a delightful town and, once again, a great base for exploring by using the frequent, cheap train services).

Those three suggestions are based on places I've visited myself and which I know you'll enjoy. One place I've yet to try is Marrakesh. Ryanair fly there from Luton and it should certainly be 'different'.

Istanbul is wonderful but you need minimum 3 nights and I will guarantee you'll want to go back and see more!

Lastminute.com have got some 3 day trips for around �200 - 250 from Stansted direct to Istanbul with Turkish Airlines.

Krakow or Bratislava are good. For Bratislava, consider flying into Vienna and then its only a 30 or so minute trip over the border. Krakow is very interesting, small enough to walk around and you have Auschwitz a short distance away. Food and drink are also incredibly cheap in both places as a bonus.

Jersey- not a typical break but easy to get to, bmi baby fly there i know, my parents went for a long weekend and loved it!

The Superfast Ferry from Rosyth in Fife (overnight) to Bruges is a nice experience and you can stay 1, 2, 3 or ?? days in Bruges. Ferry trip itself is first class - cinema, etc.

Just type "superfast ferry to Bruges" in the search panel and the site will give you details plus names of holiday operators. Your local travel agent could give you details too. Have to say, if you go to Bruges, don't eat in the main square (expensive) but lots of nice little places in the side streets.

To be pedantic, the Superfast ferry service operates to Zeebugge, rather than Bruges (but it's only a short bus journey into Bruges).

As previously stated, Ostend is less than 15 minutes from Bruges by train. Bruges is beautiful and historic but if you want somewhere a bit livelier (with hundreds of superb restaurants, especially around the fish quay, as well as some good shopping opportunities) head into Ostend.

Helsinki. Short flight , lot to see with great restaurants. They have Helsinki bikes which you can use free. A bit like supermarket trollies, you put in 2 euros and take a bike and when you return it (anywhere) you get your 2 euros back. Tallin, Riga and Villnius are interesting too
