Hi shopaholic,
You can buy wireless USB adapters almost anywhere these days. Argos have a selection which will work for both laptops and desktops. Can I ask which brand of router you are trying to connect to Belkin / Netgear etc. as most router manufactuers also sell compatible wireless adapters.
For laptops only

USB for laptop or desktop

Is the adapter for the laptop or the desktop, it isn't clear in your question.

adapter is for the desktop computer not the laptop. Laptop is already wireless. I'm using netgear router. I want an adapter that will give a good signal.
If the router is close to the desktop, you can connect it to the router by ethernet cable.

This will not stop the laptop connecting wirelessly and will be exactly the same as if the desktop were wireless.
In that case any of those listed in Argos would do. I use a Belkin adapter with a Netgear router with no problems. The signal strength coming from the router to the pc depends on your environment. If the signal has to pass through 3 or 4 brick walls then it will be quite weak when it reaches the pc. If the pc is upstairs directly above the router with only the floorboards in between then you will get a good signal. Hope this helps.
Yes, that should work with your system.

and is that one compatible with windows vista?
no messing ... forget saving 50p
just get the same brand as your router
that way you know that they'll both talk the same language

usb is usb ... as long as you are on XP or vista ... there is no reason why the dell cares what brand you use

even better ... use wire - it wont "be exactly the same as if the desktop were wireless" ....
it will be at least twice as fast (generally much more than that) and many many more times more resilient to interference ... and will cost less than 4.00
