chemistry is the absolute essential, along with a lot of extra curricular stuff e.g. reading New Scientist. This will show that you are more than just someone who can pass exams. If you can get any work experience in the health service - even just day visits, it will help a lot at interview and on application forms. If you're mathematical/logically minded, Physics is a good option. Biology is not essential and neither is Physics, but I recommend you take one of these. Good luck.
