Bruges (Brugge)
I am going to Bruges in a couple of weeks time with my daughter and elderly mother. Although mum is fairly sprightly we will need to get a taxi for the short trip from Bruges station to the hotel on Langestraat 38. Can anyone tell me the approximate cost as I wouldn't like my first visit there to be spoilt by being overcharged. Also any info that you think I might find useful ie reasonable (15-30 Euros) places for an evening meal would be gratefully received. Thank you.

You can walk from Brugge rail station to the city centre in a few minutes, so the taxi fare should be quite cheap.
My only advice regarding restaurants is to avoid all of them immediately around the Grand Place. They're grossly over-priced. Take a look down the side streets and you'll find plenty of cheap (but good) places to eat. Alternatively, browse through the websites of Brugges' restaurants, using the links here:

We went there last year with my sprightly octoganerian mother in law. Despite the temperature of over 30 deg, we all enjoyed the walk from the station, it's level and interesting. One of those cases on wheel makes life easier of course.
Having looked into various restaurants, their menus and what we could see on the plates, we all enjoyed a simple meal in the highly touristy Grande Place, and were very happy with the meal, the service, the price and the view.
Have a great time whereever you eat, Bruges is a lovely place. Returning to real life later from a place so polished and sanitised is a bit of a shock though!
