Why does everything happen to me? Why does it all go wrong at the best of times?
My parents left for their holiday yesterday morning. I was left in charge of the house and my younger sister.. Simple enough? Sure.
Yesterday I took the day off work to tidy the house as I have friends round for dinner tonight, my sister has friends round tomorrow night and we are having a BBQ on Sunday. (My parents are aware and trust us).
Last night at 1am the power went off and I was alone in the house but my sister was on her way home. I checked the other houses and one across the street still had power so it wasn't a power cut. I checked the fuse box in the bin cupboard and none of the switches had tripped, so I called EDF 24hr line (Seeboard) and they came at 4am and checked it! Said it was a fault due to them but they'd have to come back in the morning!
This morning 6 workmen arrived before I left for work and said they'd have to did up my front drive to get to the cable running to the bin cupboard!!! I left my sister in charge, took some food from the freezer to my aunties and went to work! I just nipped home on my lunch break and made the builders all tea and sandwiches... they loved me for that! One of them proposed! Lol. But I am laughing so much because I am in shock! 20yrs we have lived there and NEVER have we had something like this happen.. then the day my parents leave!! Can you believe it!
What a coincidence about workmen Rubyrose , I have just taken drinks out to Gas workmen .
Sorry to hear about your power going off , typical eh ?
Hope it will be sorted by the time you get home later. :-) x
Very true Katie! I was shocked too! Mainly because I looked like a drowned rat as I couldn't dry my hair! I had to rush to my aunties and dry and straighten it!
I think they came so early because of the burning smell and the fact that I called the Emergency line. I am such a drama queen!
If you think they came early because of "the burning smell", why wern't they knocking down your door as soon as you put the phone down at 4AM? I would consider a possible electrical fire a life threatning emergency, but hey ho, that's just me
John, I called them at 2am, and engineer arrived at 4am and they checked it wasn't life threatening! Then they returned at 8am this morning! Isn't that what I just wrote above?
Well it did! It smelt like a skaletrics set! (sp?).. An electrical burning! I have just been told I should have power by tonight though! I am happy... Yaaaay!
