criminal conviction.can I still get a job in counselling?

could anybody please tell me if I can get a job in counselling with a conviction? this has affected me,confidence,self esteem e.c.t in the past. I am currentley working towards a diploma in counselling and also doing voluntry work at a day care centre.I just keep thinking when it's time to apply for a job ill be knocked back.

any advice,much appreciated thanks guys...
