Many thanks to both of you.
Hi lloyd1e and shaneystar - there was a county in Scotland called Ross and Cromarty
Agh ..I knew there was somewhere ! Getting my counties and towns muddled up ! Sorry lloydle ..but I think we are the right track thanks to JMR !
I think you came up with the correct explanation, shaneystar. I couldn't fathom out the C on Y bit.
10a deil (Burns devil and lied backwards)
Burns - think the answer is deil (the devil).
I feel rather disappointed to see these questions here. This is a prize crossword and some of us like to do it by ourselves and submit our answers. I found this post accidentally on Google whilst checking an answer for myself and now I feel as if I have cheated and I will not submit my attempt at this crossword, which, incidentally, I completed. I hope the person that asked the questions also won't submit the crossword.

Sorry for having to raise this.
Hi MS76, I think you are the one losing the plot. If you are using the internet to "check you answer" by your rules you are already cheating. In my view any method that doesn't involve tying up and torturing the crossword setter to get the answers is a valid method of info gathering. If you don't think so then stay off AB for goodness sake. lol
I have used this site as a learning experience. It is the only possible way thatI am able to improve my cryptic skills. When I ask for an answer I really want an explanation too which luckily I usually get. Thanks to my cryptic teachers out there.
