Hearing tests in babies
My nephew is 22 months and doesnt talk. He also doesnt even look at you if you talk to him.
My sister had him at the docs recently for a sore throat and when he asked her if he reacted ok to sounds she said yes, but to be honest I dont think he does.
When do they do hearing tests on kids nowadays? is it just at birth?
How can I raise the subject with her without hurting her or upsetting her?

Her hearing was tested at that point too, no fear on that score- she can hear crisp packets being opened two blocks away!
Have you tried testing his hearing yourself in the guise of playing with him? Clapping etc? If you seriously believe he really can't hear, bu88er upsetting your sister- this will need looking into as soon as possible, so say something.
Good luck :-)

I thought all babies had a hearing test done at about 8 months?
I would say that he should be seen by a doctor or health visitor now, as in some areas they don't do anymore checks at 2 yrs.
It will be difficult to suggest this to his mum but i think it is important to get it checked out as early as possible and i'm sure she would want him to be helped if there is a problem.
You could ask her if he had the 8 month hearing test and if not that maybe she should call her health visitor to have it done as all babies are meant to have this.

Hi, When my baby was born this year they tested his hearing at 2 days old using a special earpiece in each ear attached to a monitor, you got a certificate to say his hearing had been checked. I dont know if this is a fairly recent thing... but they do check at birth now.
Surely your sister would have noticed in the past 22 months that he does not respond to HER voice or things like the TV and the doorbell etc?
perhaps buy him a noisy toy and sit behind him where he can't see you and see what happens, you could use this opportunity to point out to your sister your concerns if he does not react ...
