Microwave leakage detector
3 Answers
I have a combination microwave which is only two years old & I have noticed that there is a crack in the outer casing at the side of the door but its impossible to see how deep this crack actually is. Bearing this in mind I thought it right to replace it but have now been told you can buy a microwave oven leakage detector which would prove if it is safe to use. my instincts say to get rid of it but other half thinks differently. what are the health risks for using one that is possibly defective? does anyone know where I can buy or maybe hire one of these detectors? any answers would be appreciated. thanks

I don't know if that is what you are referring to. I hired it from the Heathy House on line. Our microwave is not damaged, but when we you see the field that came of it when it was on, you would never stand in front of one again! You should also leave your food for a minute or two before eating it to make sure that the levels have died down. Personally, after seeing the levels, I have tried not to use it at all.
If you suspect a leak DO NOT USE IT. Leak detectors are available and are not too expensive or, get an electrician to look at it.
Microwaves, even combo ones are not too expensive to replace.
I was once told by a scientist who was involved in the study of microwaves "a leaking oven can cook your internal organs without you knowing"
Needless to sat I do not take chances.
