You're right, and it's possibly a tremendous waste of time playing with the Christians, but it's so much fun.

I'd just like the guy to understand how completely incoherant his religion is. It'd be nice if he realised how it looks when he tries to use his set of incompatible, pick and choose nonsensical beliefs to justify how he, but most especially others, should act.

The sport of Christian baiting is alive and well I see.
Has the bible contributed nothing to our western culture.
It is generally recognised that we live in a society based on Judeo/Christian values, and probably the greatest example of this was the founding of the U.S.A. with its constitution, put together by people of Christian belief.
So to mock this is to mock the very foundations of everything our values are based on.
But, carry on if it gives you a laugh.

But I have to ask, have you even the slightest idea of what is written in the US Constitution? The only two mentions of religion in it are hardly pro-Christian:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion..."

and

"...no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States."

And if you seriously believe that the people who put it together held Christian values that are analogous to your own, you're sadly in error. They were Deists, not Theists, like you. They believed that religious beliefs must be based on human reason and observed features of the natural world, and that through these observations, God's existence is revealed. In other words, they'd completely reject your line of argument on Evolution and Noah's Flood and many of the other discussions we've had on here.

Oh, and the line about whether the Bible has contributed much to Western culture, what's your point? That because Christianity was the dominant cultural force and pervades virtually every aspect of society it must inherantly be true?

By that reasoning, you must equally accept the Koran in Middle Eastern cultures must inherantly be true or Adi Granth in the Pubjab or whatever.

The Bible has had tremendous influence on Western culture (Ghandi's quip always comes to mind, though...) but that proves nothing except that it is a successful memetic.

But in essence, what we're learning is that it's alright to hate homosexuals, 'cos the Bible says they're bad and God wrote it, so it must be true, but when it says you should kill witches, you can ignore that bit, because er... um... anyone..?

Am I really the only one confused about how you know which bits you need to pay attention to?
