kids tV, watch at school "Inspector Moon's last case"??

Anyone remember anything about a TV that would have been on in the early - mid 80's it was one of those shows you would watch at school at TV time and was called something like "inspector moons last case" featuring a detective on the trail of a guy who I think was an alien (he was a midgit) and in the last scene I think he goes back to his own dimension or something and the old inspector lies down and dies/disapears....any info??? anyone??

Are you not thinking of the programme called "The Adventures of Inspector Moon".There was a kid that use to try & help him.
