My son who is thirteen and a half has discovered a hard lump behind each of his nipples. I seem to remember I found the same when i was a lad but put it down to something to do with pubity. I ignored them and after a few months they went away. Should we ignore my sons lumps or should we get them looked at by the doctor.

Hi, puberty can cause this as the hormones start to kick in, but it might be an idea for your son to chat to the doctor if you're really worried. Puberty is full of changes that can sometimes be worrying. Try these two sites. http://www.factsoflife.org.uk/html/puberty/puberty.htm http://www.bsped.org.uk/NN/GYNAECOM.htm Google showed up lots of similar sites, (boys puberty) Hope this helps
Better safe than sorry halfwit.I would take him to the doctor just to be on ths safe side & if you find out that it was caused due to puberty then at least you know & your mind will be at ease.
I think the fact that they are behind both nipples shows that it is puberty and not something to be worried about. But always best to check with the doc.
Definitely puberty. No need to worry. It is very, very common.
I've got 3 sons and they all had the hard lumps through puberty, they can be tender and are known as "Stones".But if you're worried ask you doc.

To all the above. A big thankyou for taking the time to sort me out. Much appreciated. Ta.
I had them too -- so long ago that I had completely forgotten until reading your question. Hope this helps... though it's always worth bugging a doctor if in any doubt!
Sorry to over do the point but I went to an all boys boarding school and it happened to me and a number of boys I know. It passed and we all put it down to puberty. Strange though - I never heard of it in any of the books I read about adolesence though.
