We should all be able to laugh at ourselves - and others - when said in a joking manner. During the war, our parents and grandparents used to crack jokes about the Germans, but it wasn't to any particular individual. In the face of adversity, this sense of humour has kept the British smiling - and unique. Mind you, The Simpson's are latching on quickly!!!!
I don't think these jokes are racist!
Making a joke about a stereotypical name for someone from any race creed or colour is common place the world over, how many Scotsman Englishman Irishman jokes have you heard!
Just because a particular name is the subject of a joke does not mean you hate all people from the country that the name originates from.
People seem to forget racism is HATRED for a certain race not just a mention of it, whether in a joke or otherwise.
P.S. I didn't think they were especially funny either!

I think you've hit the nail on the head Dolly, there's a difference between racist and offensive.
A blond may be offended by a blond joke; an Asian may be offended by an Asian joke and a Scotsman by a Scottish joke. But the jokes themselves would not necessarily be racist.
Anything can be offensive if someone takes offence to it.
