Male dog never lifted leg

I have always wondered why my little Shih Tzu has never lifted his leg to pee. He has seen other dogs lift their legs but has fortunately never grasped the idea. All he does is squat down and bend his back legs. He looks kinda funny but I am still confused abotu why he hasn't ever lifted his leg. Any one know why?

How old is he? Some dogs won't lift their legs till they're well over a year old - my collie was one, but he does it now.

My last dog was a male, but never lifted his leg after he was neutered. He only ever used the squat position. lol.

Our Bull-mastiff/GSD cross was the same - he sometimes lifted his leg, other times he would squat. The vet said it was partly due to hormones - ie the age they were when neutered (or de-nutted).

My last dog was 'entire' when I got him at 5 years old - but I had him 'done'. He always lifted his leg.

hi my bulldog still squats and he is nearly 1 however my pug has been doing it from about 7 months. Got really exicited when i saw him do it !! how sad am i

I had a Springer Spaniel and he never lifted his leg either

Thanks for all your answers. Turbo is nearly 2 years old. (5th October my little man turns 2) He has been to the vet and had the operation but he has still squatted down. He always has and still does.

I have two rough collies one male,one female. The male is 7 and he still will not lift his leg.
