Cats in the garden

I have a wooden gates. What can I put on it that is non drying, and will stop tha cats from clawing and climbing the gates.

if its just the gate, I would suggest a thick layer of Fruit Tree Grease, it may be an inconvenience for a short time, but cats learn.

I did this to stop youths climbing over my gate, not quite the same thing, but it worked.

Worth a try.
