I have a problem with my eyes that I have had since June. The skin around them is very puffy and swollen. They sting quite badly at times and feel itchy. It is particularly bad in the morning and eases off at night. The doctor has given me antihistamine eye drops but they dont seem to help. Its not conjunctivitis either. Any ideas what it could be or solutions??

Do you suffer from hayfever? It's one thought, but as you have already seen your doctor and the medication doesn't seem to be helping, I would go back to him for further advice, as soon as possible.
I am an allergy nightmare/specialist after I found out that I had become allergic to all sorts of fruit and veg literally overnight lol!! Sometimes antihistamine eye drops can cause more of an irritation than prevent one. I found that eye drops caused my allergic conjunctivitus to flair up twice as bad and so stopped pretty sharpish. I would try either antihistamine tablets or syrup - piriton is very very quick at combating allergy problems. It can be bought at any supermarket and is cheaper than getting it on prescription. Try that ... if it still does nothing to help then there is also an antihistamine cream - ANTHISAN - that may help too. Again, available at places like Boots and about 2.80 for a tube. A little of this goes a long way and is also seeming to be very affective on my youngest childs eczema around his eyes as well as allergic flair-ups myself and one other child get on our face and throat. God, what a helathy family I have rofl!!!! Hope this helps. xxx
Hi MrsCheeks, I'am glad that you have found products that help, but I would have thought using creams etc round the eyes risky unless you know the exact problem. As you say some eye drops can irritate rather than help, and I can understand the problem with allergies...my mother is allergic to many antibiotics and antihistamines including Anthasan. Oh and she's allergic to insect bites!!! SPK.. having digressed...I would still advise seeing the doctor again, as without a diagnosis over the counter medication may make the problem worse. If necessary ask for a referal to a specialist....Another thought, some A&E departments have an eye unit, could be worth a visit as they 'eye orientated'. hope you get on OK
I have the exact same problem i believe Only my upper EyeLid is swollen, but it gets worse every morning. Im only 15, and already on day 2 i cant go to school. Everyone i know says, here take some drops. Drops arent helping at all. An answer to these quetions would be most helpful. If you get one could you please mail me it at [email protected] Thanks
