You may be thinking of Catherine the Great, 18th century Empress of Russia who -- it's been claimed -- died in the throes of copulating with her favourite horse [not true, but you know how these stories get around].

I also found an online article which describes what it calls the Hindu 'Queen-Horse Copulation Ritual of the Asvamedha Yajna' in more detail than you might want to know!
