Of course it seems selfish as far as the remaining family are concerned. A long time ago, when my children were small, I worked with a woman who had kids the same age, one day the police arrived at work to tell her that her daughter aged 9 had been killed on the way to school that morning. I have never seen grief such as that before or since that day. It took years before she was near normal again and was never the same. I honestly thhought at the time that she was going to try to end her life.
Who knows what was happening with the young girl before she commited suicide. A family friend with bipolar through himself off a cliff 2 years ago. He had battled with bipolar, I saw him a few days before he went missing and he seemed really happy, not necessarily manic though. Teenage girls are prone to depression caused by things happening around them and I cant think of many people who say they would want to carry on living if their child died. I suppose the grief can become a form of mental illness.
The saddest thing of all is that there is no evidence to suggest that Natasha commited suicide ~ apparently the authorities are leaning towards the accidental death theory...however it is something nobody will ever know.
Regarding the mother, of course she did commit suicide and as I have never been in the terrible situation of losing a child I cannot even begin to imagine the pain she felt.
Suicide is, by it's nature, a selfish act. Like it or not. This doesn't have to have negative connotations at all. People who commit suicide cannot see beyond their own pain. I know of someone whose father took his own life, even though he knew his daughter would be visiting that day and find him.
Surely, if he could have thought beyond his pain, he wouldn't have put his daughter through that?

To all those who have slapped this poor woman down for being weak lets hope that you are never in this position or anything remotely like it.
Its all very well saying its cowardly and frame of mind has nothing to do with it but until you have been there I don't think you are in any postion to judge how this lady must have been thinking.
I would hate to think how I would react to the loss of one of my children. I would hope that I would be lucky enough to be stronger and never be driven to suicide.

Everything we do in life is 'selfish' by the very nature of it. But 'selfish' as meant by people who say people who commit suicide are 'selfish' is meant to indicate that they had no consideration for others and have acted accordingly. Someone who is mentally unbalanced enough to commit suicide probably does not have the ability to think logically enough at this stage.
