have a ring given to me by my mum

I have this ring given to me by my mum, my gran who is long gone had this ring i thought it was a solitaire on a silver mount, people are now telling me that this diamond is a fake, how did they do that in that day is it glass if so have to tell my mum that her mother had a fake it shines quite brightly!!!

an old theory if the you scratch the diamond on glass and it marks the glass then it is a diamond but if in doubt get it checked out by a diamond specialist

If the ring's a fake, I'd keep quiet and not disillusion anyone, but if you take it into a jewellers, they'd soon be able to tell you if the diamonds are real or not.
