Delete accounts of those you submit offensive posts
18 Answers
I find it so infuriating that most of the time someone asks a decent, serious question that they actually seek help for, a few members will take the mick and write offensive comments. It seems these people have nothing better to with their time. I don't want to 'name names' but I think your site would be even more popular if these small-minded sadists were kicked off.

Hmmm, Isn't giving users the power to ban accounts a bit OTT? And isn't that open to further abuse? User A dislikes user B so deletes their account??
I was going to suggest it might be a good idea if we could delete replies that were offensive in our own questions, but again I think that's open to abuse too. We'd just have people who'd delete replies if they weren't in agreement with their own sentiments.

This reminds me of work.
The digital message bord is like answerbank. Its always being abused by a small minority of people, and the insults posted are aimed at members of answerbank like at work there aimed at everyone but especialy those who upset one of the "gang members".
I agree people should be kicked off but they can always come back again and again and again. An old man i used to know who died a few years ago now once said to me this: "You may kill the smoke but you'll never kill the fire." Work it out for yourselves.

I can see what lauren is getting at ..someone asks a serious question and you get some prattish waggish response from some fool who thinks they are funny .Depending on what sort of mood I was in I would ignore the silly sods or give them a piece of my mind .Unfortunately lauren this happens in real life too ! Not much you can do about it .
I always go by Confucious ...he say (bows)...Better to keep your mouth shut and look a fool than to open it and remove all doubt .Nevertheless if you can't give someone a sensible answer to a sensible question why chip your nail varnish bothering in the first place ....banter is different !

I asked on here once about what had happened in a television programme that I taped ..on the wrong channel ..as you do.
I politely asked if someone would be kind enough to fill me in on what the outcome of it was . I was subjected to such a rude remark from some one I have never bothered to ask anything much ever again only the odd crossword question and gardening stuff..
Told I was a sad stupid person to watch such drivel in the first place and so on ....Nice ....eh ?
I may have been sad to watch it but I don't need someone to be rude to me about it .If they didn't have anything useful to say why waste their electricity .
As I said a bit of banter in threads ..yes ..but rudeness and flippant remarks get on my nerves when people ask a civil question .
However I don't think you can ban people .That would be daft .But there ought to be better moderation in place .
