Sex changes

If I wanted a sex change to become a man, but then in ten years realised I'd made a dreadful mistake (who wouldn't?!) and wanted to be a woman again. Would it be possible to have an op to turn me from woman to man, back to woman again? Theoretically.

I think you'll find it depends on how much they took away in the beginning. I guess you can have your breasts removed (I've had breast reduction surgery and it's quite painful but perfectly possible), and of course they'd stop feeding you tons of testosterone, but as for the rest of your surgery - well if you'd had a hystorectomy in the beginning they can't replace that, can they?

But it is completely theorectical - because I doubt anyone would do it for you. To get your first sex change you'd have a long, long process to go through, and I doubt you'd be welcomed if you went back 10 years later and asked for a reversal!

It is not uncommon. A fair number of people who go through the procedure of gender realignment or sex reassignment surgery (SRS) do have post-operative feelings of regret. This can be due to psychological problems, loss of family and friends or that it did not solve their real problems.

The initial SRS takes a diagnostic consultation of anything from 2 months to 10 years, followed by a real life test which lasts between 1 and 4 years, followed by the operation and subsequent treatments.

Of those that have regrets they would have the choice of having another SRS and going through this process again or live in the male/female role without the surgery. Generally those who do not go through the operation will have feelings of regret and feel sexless, so many who have been assessed for severe regret and post operative traumatic experiences will apply for a further SRS to switch back to the original role.

Thanks all, I have no knowledge of how the operations are performed, hence the question. I can imagine there would be many people who realise that it does not solve their problems and would want a reversal, I just wondered if this was even possible. Thanks again.

When Mrs4GS qualified as a nurse her first job was working on the Gender Reasssignment ward at Leicester General, most of the patients were males who were soon to gecome women.

I was watching Corrie last night and it popped into my head that if Hayley wanted to become a man again in order to be a father to Christian (ok, far fetched, I know, but this is a soap we are talking about), would she be able to do it?

there is a programme on channels 4 on thursdays at 11 pm its quite interesting

there was a programme on bbc3 about a girl changing into a boy last night - was fasinating (cant spell that!) he looked so like a man it was hard to believe he was ever a girl
there was extensive counselling to go through first aswell
Dead sad in same parts of his story, well worth a watch if you see it advertised again!

I watched that too Rom, it was beautifully filmed I thought. It really showed the emotional side of things and how badly being in the wrong body can affect them. It explained a lot about the procedures and is definitely worth watching should it be repeated again, which it will as it's BBC 3 and they only have about 8 programmes...
