i am wondering how built in toilets work. recently stayed in a hotel and all that was protruding from the wall was the bowl. the cistern was concealed in behind a brick tiled wall. if something were to go wrong with the cistern how would it be repaired? surely they would not have to break into the wall to do this. anyone know how they do this.

Fitted many of these there will be an access panel at the back

oh i see thanks
how did you know it was a brick wall?

As stated, there is normally a void, with an access panel to the back of them....

Its normal to see this in places like shopping centre, proper restaurants etc etc....
.. where they don't want member of the public interfering with the gubbins (technical term).
technical......i have yet to read up on that.....

plumbing and all the gubbins in all good book shops now
but, Plively, I must admit to being concerned about the state of your mind. I know staying in hotels can sometimes be really boring but when you get to the stage of wondering about the toilets then................!!!!!!!
Hehe, what a brilliant thread, not sure what I laughed at the most.....the word "gubbins" which i've not heard in years or burnhal's reply. Thank you gents :-)

or was it one of Billy Connoly's wee beige jobbies?
Question Author
referring to burnhal's answer, yes i can understand why you would be thinking about my state of mind. was actually in lanzarote at the time a little worse for wear and was in that 'drunken, how's that work' daze you get into after quite a few ya know.
