If anyone protests, they will be gassed or shot,,, terrible, but we have the jock t0sser with a tick saying it's out of order and we should do something... Yeh right, try and protest about it outside the houses of parlememnt, oh wait you can't, they will set the police on you and arrest you, we arn't that different you see, democracy, yeh right and my d1cks a sponge cake. We might as well live in Burma or Russia, we count for squat and we are loosing more and more rights daily. I feel really bad for the monks, it's desgusting but it is not too far removed from what goes on over here. What do you lot think?

You can protest you just need a permit which they have to give you.

He did a hilarious program about the hundreds of protests he arranged to exploit this.
Like a protest to hand out a leaflet ( just 1) Took the police more paperwork to approve it. Or the protest against trolls under Wesminster bridge etc. etc.
Anyway he still organises mass-one-man protests outside Westminster so if you feel strongly apply for a protest against something daft and go and join them

Hang on one minute, the last democracy uprising killed as many protesters as were killed in the world trade centre. Do we all remember where we were then? NO. Is it still possibly going to be a great loss of life? Yes. This isnt just Gordon Brown saying this cant happen, the Un are holding emergency meetings to try and prevent such a big loss of life again. With at least a tenth of the protesters being Monks these marches have been peaceful.

One monk from this monastery passed away at the demonstration yesterday. The soldiers came at the middle of the night and beat up the monks. The head monk and the other 19 escaped. They beat the monks and loaded them onto a truck like animals. We could hear gunshots, screams and shouting. Soldiers shouted that they are not just going to shoot in the air, but also on people."

I am constantly amazed at some of the posts on this site (and particularly in news). The stupidity of opinions beggers belief. It's 'not too far removed' from the UK (I assume). If you stopped for a moment to consider that statement, you should be ashamed of yourself. Freedom of speech is a fundamental right, and it is only when you have it that you can abuse it by saying something so crass and infantile. The protestors in Burma who are risking their lives by silently protesting for the freedoms you cannot begin to imagine being without deserve the world's attention. Whatever you think of Gordon Brown and his policies, when it comes to standing up for what is morally right he is miles ahead of most leaders.

Listen, i have never experienced anything like what those poor people over there are experiencing at the moment and i hope i never will, it is desgusting and we should do something about it.
But that was not my point, the reason the people of Burma are being shot in the street is because they are ruled by a junta, my point is, (unless we apply, which can be turned down, as we have been told) we can not stand outside our own houses of parlement and protest, no we will not be shot (not at the moment) but we can be arrested and carted off to the police station and have a record, i saw part of the program Jake was on about and the crime you are nicked for is quite a bad one, something like 'organized criminal'. Now we have all seen the police attack protestors in London, they might not shoot people but they like to hand out a beating, you have all seen it. This government has run roughshod over many laws in this country to get thier own way, Blair positioned all his cronies in the civil service, driving out many civil servants, so now it's mostly labour who run the civil service. The b4stards wont give us the vote on europe, even though they promised They flood these streets with all sorts of crap with their imigration policy and if we complain , we are racists and can be arrested. Their a bunch of paranoid gits as well, there are more cameras down most high streets than in bloody Holywood and just as luck would have it, we all have cameras on our phones and we can all spy on one another, i think that we are not far from a junta in this country, before long the mercinary police in this country, will be shooting people who complain.

I had to laugh when the news reported that they were going to use their "laws against assembly" to break up the protests. When we also have the same laws regarding assembly in this country. I believe 90% of this country's population is completely oblivious to the similar laws we have here. Maybe they believe they are only to stop travellers, ravers, anti hunt demonstrators, well no actually they can be used at any time for anyone.
People are actually banned from cities for protesting against things in that city. Is that our rights, our freedom?

As I come from Bristol, inevitably there is an awareness of what happens when there is pubic dissent and protest. Dragoons were brought in and hundreds of people killed. Its not like the good old days is it?
Yes there are limitations on our civil rights in this country but there just is no comparison between any change in our rights/liberties in this country and the situation in Burma. To make comparisons is either belittling what is happening in that country or pretty poor attempt at scaremongering.

You can still protest legally outside the houses of parliament you just have to apply to the police ahead of time and they can impose restrictions if they think there's a realistic risk of trouble.
In one protest Mark Thomas found himself in the middle of a non-approved anarchist protest getting nasty and the officer in charge assigned 2 coppers to escort him so he could protest without getting arrested - no cameras or BBC there it was just his retelling of what happened.
As for loosing rights - yes -why? - read all the muslem posts on here. It's classic George Orwell - Governments set up a bogeyman and terrify the population then step in and say "we'll protect you, but you have to give us total control". They lost the Soviets so they need a new one.

early 1830s I think, parliament was supposed to be desolved to get rid of the rotten boroughs and give people in the new industrial towns the vote, the bill went to the house of lords but was overturned and there were enormous riots. The biggest being in Brizzle. Lots of people were killed. Its an echo of what is happening in Burma and if successful then maybe they will have the right to whinge about what a crappy government they have, a liberty we too often take for granted and forget people died fighting for this right.
