i,m going to portugal on the first of october and my ten year passport expires on the first of april 08 , i,ve heard this six month thing ,am i in any trouble ? i make it exactly 6 months when i fly but coming back obviously less,

check the portugese embassy website and see what it says.but as they are a EU country,i would think its fine.

passports go up in pricve sometime in october
so try getting it before and save some cash.

EU nationals are only required to produce evidence of their EU nationality and identity in order to be admitted to any EU Member State. This evidence can take the form of a valid national passport or national identity card. Either is acceptable. Possession of a return ticket, any length of validity on their document, sufficient funds for the length of their proposed visit should not be imposed

There is nothing about the 6-month rule = in general this is an 'urban myth'

As Auntie indicates, there are very few countries where the '6 month rule applies'. An EU passport is valid for entry to any of the 27 member states right up until its expiry date. (You have the right to live and work in any EU country, so you can't be prevented from entering any EU member state as long as you've got a current EU identity document which, for UK citizens, means a non-expired passport).

Nope - just has to be valid for a UK passport. The 3 month rule is for non-EU passports - if it exists at all.
