what is the best type of carpet clean?

Mys carpets need a clean and have areas badly discoloured where my elderly cat repeatedly peed.Should I get them cleaned by dry-cleaning or with water?

If you still have the cat dont use any cleaning product which contains amonia as this will attract the cat back to the spot, also depends on the fibre make up of the carpet I suppose but I doubt if water would work

Borax is old fashioned but may be a good choice for the stain and Bicarbonate of Soda (on dry carpet) for any odour
