I was just wondering if anyone could tell me what is a good amount to put in a 1.4 litre engine that is low on oil to bring it back up to normal? sorry if it seems a dumb question to some but my motoring knowledge is few and far between
Thanks in advance

put as much in as required, there is a dipstick that tells you how much to put in without overflowing it,if you havent got a clue then go to a garage and ask,if you dont put any in your engine will soon blown up.

not really as i know what a dipstick is just wanted to find out how much i would need to buy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It really depends on how much oil is still in there, normally to top it up you would buy a 1 litre bottle (the oil level should be in between the high and the low on the dipstick). If it's really low you maybe better off buying a 5 litre one and using the rest for topping up.Go easy pouring it in and check the level as you go,putting too much in has almost the same effect as having none
Should've said in other post.Have you got the cars handbook it normally tells you the oil capacity in the techy section at the back
dipstick
just keep putting oil in til the oil mark on the dipstick is midway between minimum and maximum,

5 litres of oil- dependant on brand and grade can vary in cost between 5 - 50

or 1 litre of oil- price between 2- 15

just buy a 5 litre one from any carspares store - use what you need to- (use it bit by bit dont just whack the whole lot in )
then keep it for future top ups ;)

vehicle handbook will recommend a grade of oil to use, but if you are unsure check with a member of staff in the car shop as they will have a guide if you tell them car make and model etc

hope that helps-

:)

p.s we all start somewhere so everyone quit giving him/ her a hard time eh ??
