United Nations

Soon after the 39-45 war, (probably within the next year or 18 months,) we, at my Grammar School in S.E.London, were given the chance to enter a draw to attend a ceremony at the Albert Hall in London which was an inaugural event for the U.N.
I remember many people with flags of all nations, (reminiscent of the Remembrance Day celebration)
parading through the Hall and up to the stage. A name I remember was Jan Mazaryk, who sadly either commited suicide or was killed a few years later.
Does anyone remember this event? Were you there? I have always wanted to know the true facts about the event because at the time I was a rather silly 14/15 year old, and not aware of the importance of what was going on.
Any info will be most gratefully received.
