How come they can still keep the twins if they are suspected of killing Maddie ?
I do not understand how Maddie's parents are allowed to keep the twins when they are official suspects for the death of their other daughter.
What if all of a sudden something happens to one of the twins? Wouldn't we all be asking why they were left with supposed child killers ?

Perhaps its all down to the fact that the 'crime' (if there was one committed by the parents) was committed abroad, and therefore deemed to be outside the jurisdiction of our courts. Since no crime has been committed in this country, they're not suspects under our law, and therefore our laws don't apply to this particular case. I don't know - it's just a thought.

Theyve just said on sky news they expect her to be charged with involuntary manslaughter

I do know that the fact they are "suspects" makes us in the UK automatically look at it in a "they must be guilty" way...even if it is a really really deep doubt of their innocence. However I can't help thinking that if they were at all involved with Maddie's disappearance surely they wouldn't have made such a huge attempt to make the media involved in her search?.Wouldn't they have done as much as possible to stay out of the media & not stayed there ?
Far enough 1rovert , but Hamlet was set many years ago. With the technology we have these days (dna etc) doesn't it take someone with nerves of steel to stand up & face the media/police etc pleading innocence - if guilty, especially when it is their own child.
Mind you...that's coming from someone who is a cr*p liar...but I really wouldn't want to think it was the parents as that really would make them extremely cold & calculating.

agree totally, spikey. If you'd just murdered someone the last thing you'd do would be go and see the pope, give press conferences, keep yourself in the news every day. Just give some initial help, let the police flounder round, quietly express your regrets and let the case fade away... that's what any sensible murderer would do.
JNO - Have to disagree, what about all of the times people have been on TV pleading for the killer to be caught only for it to be them all along.
The circus surrounding the whole case has been ridiculous, I mean videos at football matches, candlelit vigils, meeting the pope, campaigning at airports, if she is alive (which i hope she is but doubt it) she could have walked passed you in the street a week after it happened and you wouldn't have rcognised her.
The key to the case is within 5 miles of where she "disappeared" from.

Neil, this happens quite a lot even in cases where guilt is proved.
I have read of many cases where a child has been seriously abused by a parent or both parents. If there are other children in the family who haven't shown any signs of abuse they can stay in the family. Ludicrous I know, but it happens.
I know this is a murder investigation rather than abuse, and of course as the couple are formal suspects and have not yet been charged they are still innocent until further proof is found.

I agree with Reverandfunk, remember Tracey Andrews who killed her boyfriend in cold blood and then manipulated the media and the public by appearing at a press conference begging the "road rage killer" to turn himself in? Everyone was duped for months. If Kate McCann did have anything to do with Madeleine's disappearance / death then it is entirely possible that her self preservation has kicked in and she is fighting for her own survival.
I must admit that Neilzulu1 put into words in his question what I was thinking yesterday until I read that Leicester Social Services had become involved.
I don't have any opinion whatsoever on Madeleine's disappearance except to say that I am fed up with people slating the Portuguese Police just because we don't know how they work; and that the parent's have led themselves wide open to suspicion because of their proved negligence.

There is an article in the papers one of the tabloids about a woman who killed one child it is aleged and abused others in her family. she is set to return to scotland it is stated within weeks from america. beverly alit killed because of a similar condition and that is just one reason anyone can turn to child homocide. drugs as i have stated in another statement to the answer bank on this subject can also be a good answer to how could they.....? all drugs are dangerous especially those that alter your mental and emotional states of mind. this is especially so if a child is subject to unrequited or not drug treatments. their problems can surface and inflict a devilish blow to the fools that meddle with the minds and souls of children let alone an adult. irespect of who is responsable it is best to veiw the problem with an open mind and gather rather than present and encourage another altered state of mind by allowing people some escapeisms from the facts no matter how direct or indirect the involvement.
