Japanese Rose
Hi, I have been given a plant which my friend called a japanese rose. It has a beautiful deep purple flower on it, very like a rose, and two more buds to come.Does anyone know it's proper name please, as I can't find it in my gardening books, and don't even know if it is a house plant or for the garden.Thank you, Shirl

Nope, guess not, Hawkwalk, but thank you for trying. My plant is about 20" tall, a single stem and the flower is a very deep regal purple, fairly open with yellow stamens. The leaves are long and thinnish, are bluey green matt and it doesn't have thorns. The flower and two buds are at the very top of the stem, nothing seems to be happening lower down. I checked the site you mentioned but no luck there either.
When you say rose do you mean the open flat type or the double petalled type?
I think after all the rain this year I've gone rusty & can't think! - the things that came to mind were japanese anemones which are usually pink or white but I know there are lots of new varieties, or hellebores (Lenten/Christmas roses).

Could be a Lisianthus in that case.
