Hi all, I had to have my beloved rabbit put down today and am so upset. I wanted to be with her while they put her to sleep but wish I hadnt. They had to put 2 injections into her ear and then she let out an awful high pitched scream after the 1st one. I just cannot get this out of my head. Why did she do this? The vet said it doesnt happen that often but when it does she said it is deeply upsetting for the owners, which it was. I couldnt talk to her because I was that upset I just wanted to get out of there.
Poor you - it is bad enough to have to have an animal you love put to sleep. I don't know why it happened - perhaps it was the feeling of the needle but they go to sleep very quickly. When I had my cat put down a few months back she let out a yell as they injected her but then died straight away.
With Myxamatosis she would have suffered a lot more if you had kept her so be comforted by the fact that you did the only thing that you could for her.

Oh dear dorindarasbe how awful for you, these sort of traumas stay with you for a long time and you will take ages to get over it. You will in time, these are the things we suffer when we have our pets, but if you looked after her well that is the main thing.Do try and think of the good times and happy times you had with her. bless g.
I am sure she would have felt better knowing you were with her. Imagine if she had been left with total strangers, although it was distressing for you it was the best thing for her and you were brave enough to take the decision for her and to see it through.
Thankyou for taking the time out to reply to my question. As I was doing a sunday roast today I forgot that she was no longer with me and left her the vegetables, bless her. Just hope I can get that last image of her out of my head asap. Many thanks you 3. xxx
The memory of your poor pet's passing is still very raw and fresh in your mind, but in time, it will fade, but the memories of your time with her will remian.
The human mind is expert at protecting itself, it gathers pleasant memories close, and pushes hurtful ones away, so give yourself time to grieve, and you will get past this time.
hello very sorry about your pet i had the same with one of my rats it let out an awful yelp when the vet injected it to put it to sleep it had a cancer in the bladder,i was in tears too,i wondered though how your domestic rabbit caught mixi:
was it in contact with wild animals,i find it puzzling,
Hi deggers316, unfortunately the vet said that in our area of Norfolk there is an epidemic at the moment and she said that my rabbit would have got bitten by an infected gnat and caught it that way. She also said that my rabbit was very unlucky to have caught it this way. Thanks for answering my query anyway. x
