my local poundshop is selling roses. The stems look healthy enough but they have a few sickly looking white shoots growing from them. Will these roses grow okay?

Some of my best roses are cast off's and cheap ones bought at the end of the season. Remember to dig the planting hole large enough and use lots of water during and after transplanting... They love sun, by the way. Make sure it can get at least 8 hours where ever you plant it...
I agree, give them a go...
I bought this one from my local supermarket for 1 & I've had it a few years now. It always flowers & has never had a single aphid or disease....I'll probably find it's keeled over tomorrow now I've said that! :o)

It's only a pound, but you do get what you pay for, a little more and you will certainly have a better success rate.
I recently brought some climbing roses and paid under 10 each, which may seen quite a lot up front, but over 10-20+ years they are an investment. Paying only a pound per rose may not give you the same return, so although they are cheap they are a waste of money.
