Skin biopsies and blood tests under general anaesthetic
17 Answers
My 3 y/o Collie Jack is going in for the above tests under gen. anaesthetic on Wednesday. I don't think I have a question, I am just a little worried, as I am aware of a slight risk with anaesthesia. He of course had similar when he was *whispers* castrated, and he is a healthy dog, so I shouldn't be too concerned. They are our babies though hey!
Please don't post scare stories for me, at least until after Wednesday afternoon!

Jack just gave me a "get over it, Mum!" look...God I love him more than anything or anyone I have ever known or will know! He really is my world.
Got all my digits super-crossed for him. Head says, "routine op, routine op, routine op..." heart says, "potential complications, potential complications, potential complications"! And of course, there's the leaving them at the vet's all flipping day. Although it is only round the corner. I could just set up camp outside with a flask of soup and a book!

Leelapops - I know exactly how you feel. I have 3 persians, and my youngest, Bailey, who is 6 had to have 2 anaesthetics in 3 days, not long ago. I was having
palpitations when I handed him over, I was shaking from head to foot.. My cats are my babies! He was fine. The anaesthetics they use these days are so much better, and they take so much care, there is very little risk. He is a healthy dog, he has had anaesthesia before, he will sail through it. i subscribe to quite a few cat websites, were people ask questions and swop stories. I cannot remember the last time anyone posted about losing a pet under anaesthetic, and this is worlwide!!!
I look forward to your posting on Wednesday to tell us how he is.

Hi everyone, sorry it's taken me so long to come back and thank all of you fabulous people for your words of kindness.
Jack was busy flirting with the vet nurse as I left, so I can't imagine him being too lonely!! Only 45 mins until I can call and check how he's doing.
Susan, I am sure it is nothing serious, but I would rather know so we can at least control it or even eliminate the cause ideally. Thank you.
garner-thank you, I bet he'll be all waggy and totally fine when I go round to get him. The good thing is that the vets is only 2 mins walk away, so I can get round if there is a problem, and if there isn't and he is just ready for his armchair!
cruella, thank you so much :) How's your little lady? Any comeback from the police regarding the incident at the weekend?
Gypsy-thank you, how is Nico doing?
sambro-your poor puss! Thanks for your reassurance, and I hope Bailey is all better :)
bm, lovely as ever, thank you. I will give him a ug from you and a snog from Porsche when he's home.
It's his birthday Sunday, so I went out and bought him his pressies today-squeaky tennis balls because we've been looking for some for ages, and they will be his idea of heaven! A new collar and a rawhide frisbee :)
I appreciate all your thoughts and the effort you've put into making me feel better! Will update later when my boy is home. X

Hey everyone, picked Jack up just after 3 today. He was VGB (Very Good Boy!) at the vets, flirting as usual with the nurses! He's such a floozy...!
He has a couple of stitches in his belly, and they have shaved-SHAVED!-part of his front leg, but it's barely noticeable, unless you are scrutinising him like I did when he got home! He is a little sleepy, but full of cuddles as per...
Gypsy, you may like to know that while waiting for Jack I met a 10-week-old GSD pup, Taz...She was BEAUTIFUL! I fell completely head-over-heels for her.
bm thank you lots to you and Porsche. Kisses right back (although I will let the dogs get on with that!)
Thanks gain everyone x

Hi leelapops
Been thinking about your Jack and you this evening waiting to hear of ther was any news.
So glad the your Jack is okay and that YOU survived today. It is an ordeal for our animals as well as ourselves. Well done him. I justknew he would come through when it was important.
Yes, Misty is fine, called the Dog wardens today and they paid the owners of the other dog a visit and gave them a warning. They were fine about it and promised to secure their garden a bit better.
Love to you and Jack. xx
