People could each write a short note commenting on their achievements as a couple (you guys amongst others!) i understand you can get books where people can write their best wishes in them. if you are feeling really brave why not film a blog from each person and make them a dvd/video. a digital photo frame might be a good pressie. 50 in argos at the moment - i saw it today. whatever you do i am sure that just having close familiy give up their time to help them celebrate will be reward enough. hope it goes ok. will let you know if i think of anything else.
I was just going to write what Julie has! You can get copies of back-dated newspapers for whichever day and year you want. Add it to a large scrapbook, which also includes old photos, up to the present day. Try and get a few of your parents old schoolfriends, workmates and special people to come round for an hour or so - and offer a buffet-style meal. I hope it turns out well!
Look up as many facts as you can on 1957, have a family get together and get them all to dress as they would have done then! gather up photos and memories to talk about and let them reminisce, play tunes from their day (although would have been on vinyl!) maybe they had a first song at their wedding? any children will love the fun element and dressing up can mask any sadness and bring about laughter when you see how everyone turns up!
Well I looked at awedding photo of mum and dad, and found as many of the original people as i could, looked them up and invited them over! The only person we couldnt get, was the vicar!!!! We didnt have the internet then either, so it was a lot harder! Good luck John! Hope you all have a fantastic "do" and my best to your parents for their anniversary!!!!
