How much of a discount can I expect on my car insurance if I do a Pass Plus course? What are AB-ers experiences of them?

I have no personal experience of PASS PLUS but a few quotes from their website may prove useful to you...

"If you passed your test more than a year ago you should check that you�ll be eligible for the discounts on offer from your insurance company before you take the course."

"When you have successfully completed the course, you are advised to check available discounts offered by the insurance companies taking part in the scheme. The amount you save will depend on the company you choose."

its around 10 to 20 %,less then it costs to do the pass plus test.

Also bear in mind that the insurance companies who offer discount on completion of a Pass Plus course are not the cheapest in the first place.

I think it's largely a money mking scheme for the instructors.

My cousin did it and it cost her �85. She recieved a discount of �67 off of her policy.

As above though, the typical discount is between 10&20%, dependant on age.

The insurance company I work for allows young drivers who have passed their pass plus within 6 months of passing their test 1 years no claims discount which equates to 30%. We also offer a 7 month policy for young drivers who are wanting their own insurance for the first time, as long as they stay claim free in that 7 months then we will give them 1 yrs ncd and start them off on a 12 month policy.

The day after I passed I got a quote from an insurance company and they told me I could get a discount if I done the Pass Plus training. The discount was bigger than the actual cost of the Pass Plus training so I went ahead with it.

What the insurance company didn't tell me was that there was a 'limited period' to which I could get this discount. This period was 14 days from when they gave me the quote and took out my policy. I only found this out when I booked the training (which took a week as it was summer time) and then to find I needed to post a photocopy of my certificate to the insurance company. Eventually having rang them continuously they allowed me to have my discount.

So if you do go ahead and do Pass Plus make sure you know the discount you are getting from the insurance company and make sure there is a longer period than 2 weeks for the discount.

I have a Pass Plus Certificate and can say that I have only ever used it once. I think it is a waste of money as many companies dont recognise it and those who do (as previously mentioned) are not the cheapest by any means. You can usually get a quote cheaper without using it!

Personally I wouldnt bother obtaining it, just shop around for your insurance.
