Why not save your cash and ask to borrow your brother's Freeview box ?
Digital TV is still a bit flaky and certain areas due to geography of the land and surrounding buildings still cannot receive Freeview.
With poor digital reception It's not like watching a grainy analogue tv pic. The sound is usually the first to go, people sound like Norman Collier doing his broken microphone act which renders most programmes unwatchable.
