Sat at my desk, bored as usual, and the old(ish) man who works on the desks next to me has just offered everyone a drink but me! Whenever I go and get drinks i offer him one, and this isn't the first time he has ignored me. I haven't been here very long, so what the $%* is his problem?
Must sound like I don't have much to worry about if this annoys me (which to be fair I don't), but to me this is just plain RUDE! Why do some people act like this? I've hardly even spoken to him so I can't see how he doesn't like me.
Much worse has happened to me in the past when I was a bit younger, but when you're in a professional job working with adults you wonder why people can act so childishly.
Would other people be as equally pi55ed off/offended if this happened to them? Or am I being an idiot??!!
It does sound like they are just being rude!!!
- perhaps he feels threatened by you being new in the office and he is being pushed out? stranger things have happened
What you need to do is when you get all the drinks next purposely ask everyone but him ... IF he says anything just say you were following his lead
Its all very petty and you would think that in a professional job people would behave as adults but alas the reality is that professional people are often as childish if not worse than most
When he returns with drinks for everyone but you just stand up with your mug and declare loudly that you'll get your own then. Show him up to his colleagues for being such a meanie, the miserable old git!
Ha ha! Love those suggestions... to be honest I thought people would reply and tell me to grow up and not let it bother me! So thanks for understanding!
I should say something, but I'd just feel like a bit of an ass and think people would probably think I was a weirdo! There's no way he's threatened by me, we do completely different jobs...
Think I will just try and get over it, but when stuff like this happens just makes me know I made the right decision in handing my notice in yesterday! Who needs it!
I would do as jiggy says, when he returns ater having made everyone a drink just stand up and go and make yourself one (even if you don't want one!). You'll be making a point without being rude.
agreeing with nat & jig too. i would also (when he got back with the drinks and everyone says "cheers mate" say "i'll get me own bleeding drink then, shall i". hopefully that comment would make him look a total nit twit
Yup Ill agree with Jiggy-gb but im just getting off the floor after reading Triggerhippy's suggestion! I havent laughed like that for a long time! NICE ONE!!! I dont think you go wrong if you do either suggestion!
lol I was going to suggest the same as jiggy too! Another thing you could is wait for him to sit back down after giving everyone their drinks, reach over and take his saying nice and loudly "ah, this one must be mine then"
Look at him and smile and say cheers before taking a nice sip of HIS drink!
dmysmr - No I didn't hand my notice in over stuff like this, I know that would be really stupid! I've had enough of this job, but if everyone were really lovely to me then maybe I would have regretted leaving (even though I know it's the right thing), but as I have to put up with people like him I don't feel bad about leaving at all!
It's only a temporary job anyway so I'm really not bothered, and don't think I'll regret leaving for one second!
Ah well, on your way out, go with the golden suggestion and spit at him!! Its never nice ot leave under a black cloud but If your going anyway just dont even bother with the guy. Hope the next job is better for ya!
