Prop the chichen up on it's legs and the can and cook it on the grill outside - it stands up just fine with no additional help. Although the ovens we have in our kitchens are plenty big enough to stand them up in a pan in the oven. They use different rubs for the chicken before they start preparing it for cooking. I like the recipe I got from Emeril that is spicy.
Country - just in case you want to try it:
Emeril's Essence Creole Seasoning
Courtesy of Emeril Lagasse
2 1/2 tablespoons paprika
2 tablespoons salt
2 tablespoons garlic powder
1 tablespoon black pepper
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
1 tablespoon dried oregano
1 tablespoon dried thyme
Combine all ingredients thoroughly.
Yield: 2/3 cup
I usually keep some of this mixed up to use on chicken and other kinds of meats.

Hi country_boy, I have made this a few times. I wasn't too impressed by just balancing the chicken over the beer can. I found it difficult to get the can out of the chicken, and was concerned that it would tip over and scald me. The chicken was juicy though. I sent off for a stand on ebay (not very dear) so it's now much easier and safer to cook. Hope this helps.
