however, if the land and resources used to feed the cows that belch methane into the air like they do was used instead to feed hmans we'd have huge tracts of rainforest in the southern hemisphere and vast anounts of arable land here. There is some connection, allowing that climate change is man made (I'm still on trhe fence on that one...)
Didn't hear that one, but on the same sort of theme, I read that its been proposed that we all switch to UHT milk to save energy on refrigeration, ugh, no thanks, it tastes horrible!
Rainforests are being cleared for grazing and for growing soy which is used to feed intensively reared farm animals in the West. To produce a pound of meat take many pounds of soy so you can imagine the scale of devastation to the rainforests that this is having and is a contributory factor to global warming. And as Whickerman mentioned, the vast quantities of methane from cattle is a serious problem. Want to do your bit and help save the planet? Going vegetarian is a good place to start.
It was on breakfast TV yesterday and it definitely made the connection with eating meat and wheat. I think Wickerman is on the right track, they were saying that all the cows and the farm machinery caused global warming. Perhaps we should give the cows Remegel Wind Relief tablets in their food!
As to the UHT milk. This is about Europe as most European countries use UHT, especially places like Spain where milk has to keep in the heat. What they fail to grasp is that in Engand we drink milk on its own and not just use it in hot drinks and cooking.
