How many cubic inches, total, did they burrow in those seven hours?

Well the average is 503 so I guess you add 503 to the 3020 inches to get 3523 cubic inches. It is a very rough figure though.

It is a riddle, squarebear. The amount of cubic inches burrowed out is irrelevant, the question asks for the cubic inches burrowed in. And that is none.

No it doesn't. It says "burrow in those six hours" not "burrow in, in those six hours".

Ok squarebear, I am not going to argue with you but the very fact that the question leaves the amount of dirt burrowed out in the seventh hour to be guessed at would leave one to assume that there must be some other way of answering the question.
