Our very long haired cat goes in the litter tray and often gets messed up at the rear end, so I suggested trimming the fur off her backside to keep her clean.
Is this cruel.
Should I change her diet?
Although she can get messy when loose or otherwise, with bits hanging from her fur.
Yes, we have to wipe her bum.

I have 3 persian cats, and have also experienced these rear end problems. I do trim the long fur from round their bottom. They dont like it, but it does not hurt them. It is no worse than having to wipe their bum if they have an accident. i would advise you to get some scissors that curve upwards at the tips,. sort of like the end of skis. Then if the cat struggles or makes a sudden move you wont accidentally cut them. You can get them at most large pet stores. It is not cruel.

Ours is a Ragdoll, and I think it will have to have a haircut in this vicinity.
The curved scissors is a good idea though. Thanks.
I feed my two mainly dried food, and it is dried cr*p at the other end. One of mines is a long haired moggie and it really makes her behind so much cleaner.
I have to agree with you on that Wolf. My cats are on dried food also. And we dont usually have a problem unless thry get the runs. But quite frequently a little "log" can cling on and then falls off outside the litter tray. But this is not as bad as when it fails to drop off and they sit on it.! lol
Afew weeks ago,my ex paid a visit. Cleo decided to grace his lap with a visit from her majestic self....I howled with laughter when I noticed that there was a rather fossilised pooh stuck to her bottom fur! She knows how to pick the right moment! I frequently have to chase her around the house-tissue in hand-trying to grab the "stuck bits"....lol Pains in the backside...but we love 'em
I am going to giggle at the imagery presented by pastafreak - thank you so much for that !
