q 109. seven letter name derived from arabic of oil made by pressing sesame seeds. thought it was gingili, but this is not from arabic. also there are several ways of spelling this word. any clues would br appreciated. q 144, 9 letter word coined by french scholars from a latin word meaning 'direct' denotes full and direct state control of a copuntry's economy. can anyone help please.

Sesame oil in Arabic is Tahinah... however, some references include gingelly...
109. In Chambers it says ..
ginjili,or jinjili .. Hindi jinjili..prob from the Ar juljulan,
so still may be Arabic in origin.
gingili is what OED has (quizmail mainly quote OED).

The root of the word is Arabic although later Hindi.

i may yet submit gingili , but tahini /taheeni warrants consideration.

Tahinah/taheeni/tahini is a product made from sesame seeds but is a kind of sauce/pate/dip. You can see it for sale in Tesco.
