My wife feeds 2 cats. They let Magpies steal their food. At first there was a War but the Magpies scolded the cats from the trees and now the cats seem to have surrendered. Anyone know why, please ?
They aren't surrendering, the cats are regrouping. They have called for reinforcements. My two are on their way from Scotland.
Either that or the Magpies have frightened the cats into a surrender. As sally1001 says they are big, noisy birds and the cats are too intelligent to take them on.
over the past few months, I've looked into the garden and seen my cat as low as she could get herself on the ground, while 3 magpise circled round her. Every now and then they would take turns to peck at her.
She didnt fight back either, like wolf63 said, cats are too intelligent to fight back, they would simply we outnumbered by the big brutes.
totally agree, magpies are evil, I have 2 guinea pigs, and I often see a magpie either landing on top of their run, or circling around it, just waiting for an opportunity to strike through the mesh, trouble is guinea pigs are such trusting inquisitive creatures, time to take up firearms maybe?!
Sorry to be disgusting.....but I like Magpies!!! I feed my dogs a complete organic dog food....and the Magpies eat most of their poop....gotta love 'em!!!!
No animals, including Magpies, are "evil", which is just a human definition we have created to explain away awful human acts - they're just very protective and defensive birds. It's only natural animal behaviour to work together in a group to fend off potential predators or stalk potential prey.
sherlockian - Got to disagree with you - humans can be pretty evil.
I agree with your sentiment, but taking our answers in the lighthearted way in which they were intended - whilst still trying to be helpful to brionon - Magpies can be a bl00dy pest.
You will find that most of the people in this part of AB are animal lovers and would never condone cruelty to any animal, even the tom cat that is currently stalking my cheese sandwich.
Hi Susan
Sorry, my point was meant to imply that ONLY humans are evil, animals are not.
Whilst I understand people's answers are lighthearted, I disagree that most people in AB are animal lovers! I have often seen threads recommending ways of destroying wildlife just because they are getting in the way or are deemed a nuisance, rather than recommending ways of embracing or detering our fauna. It seems the less furry or cuddly a creature is the less people respect its right to life!
Rant over - if it's any consolation I have the same problem with seagulls, but learn to live with them (and occasionally feed them too!)
