asthma!

I have a new inhaler, its green and called atrovent, I think. As I got dished this out when I was getting my nebuliser I got told how and when to take it (alongside the ventolin and 3 times a day)but not told for how long to use it for. Is it likely to be a lifetime thing like my ventolin and becotide or will it be like the prednislone (sp) and just for a short course! Also. I am in the process of removing and replacing almost all my soft furnishing with more asthma friendly alternatives to prevent attacks but I know I have a problem when the air is ermmm wet/humid if that makes sense. Is there anyway of preventing this in the home? I know I cant do much about outside but at least I could have a little haven indoors.

hi goodsoulette your asthma must be very bad if you have to use nebuliser even when not having an asthma attack!!! i'm also asthmatic and have ventolin and becotide inhalers that should be getting used every day, but don"t..... to be honest my asthma is mild now i"m in my thirty's, so i don't really need to use anymore. when i was young and right through into my late teens, i was in hospital every year without fail, really bad attacks, but, just like the doctor said, as i got older i sort of outgrew it as i had it so bad. i really sympathies with you babe i know what its like to life with asthma and everything that comes along with it, so unfortunately i don't know anything about your new inhaler

but i do know that nothing can really beat ventolin, its def been a life savor for me. if your asthma is so bad then you must be going for out-patient appointments, if so then just phone them up and get the information that you need as you obviously need to take it, if not, then get in contact with the person that prescribed it and they will give you all the details you need. good luck goodsoulette, as long as you keep your asthma controlled then theres nothing stopping you having a long and healthy life. xx

Hi Goodsoulette , sorry to hear yours is playing you up again , I have been back in the high dependancy ward with an attack recently , must be the change in weather eh ?
Well I hope you are back under control now sweetheart .
I use the Atrovent inhaler in conjunction with the ventolin one , I have 2 puffs of ventolin followed by 2 puffs of Atrovent several times a day . I also have both of those in nebulizer solution that I use together in the nebulizer when I use it.
If you are unsure of it's use you should really ask your practice nurse or your gp when you are to stop using it .

Ooo , gosh I know exactly how that is , I had a new kitchen just over a year ago , and had a wetroom shower bathroom done about 8 weeks ago . The mess and noise will be worth it when it's finished though :-) x

its the dust more than anything, the electricians put all new wiring and you can imagine, but as you said it will be worth it in the end. better go bed now, have them back early tomorrow!!! goodnight Bigmamma xx
