And I'm a girl, Scarlets (not that you asked but what the heck) fiferboy: completely agree about Dido, although I was dragged to one of her gigs about a month ago and it wasn't as bad as I was expecting. She's still massively overrated though- all her songs sound the same. But Beyonce? She's fabulous, a real diva. And that voice!
Hi Cruthinboy The Dooleys were raised in Ilford, Essex. The group started around 1970, turned semi-pro 3 years later and moved to Manchester (Salford, actually) as most of their work was on the northern club circuit. 2 of the family members have now moved back down south, (Berks and Herts areas), while two of the family are still around Salford, the un-related drummer remained in his original hometown of Shaw near Oldham. 3 of the group now live in South Africa.

And I'm a girl by the way, Scarlets (not that you were asking though, but what the heck). fiferboy, completely agree about Dido- all her songs sound exactly the same and are 'droney'. But Beyonce? I think she's fabulous, a real diva. And that voice! Although her album could have been better- I think she works better as one third of Destiny's Child.
Hi Cruthinboy (my answer seems to have disappeared re-the Dooleys) They were raised in Ilford, Essex. The group started in 1970 and turned semi-pro in 1973 at which time they relocated to Manchester (Salford, actually), as most of their work was on the northern club circuit. Since they disbanded Jim and Kath (vocalists) have returned down south (Herts and Berks area), the two guitarists John and Frank have remained around Salford. Sisters Anne (vocals) and Helen (keyboards) and (bass guitarist and Annes husband) Bob Walsh live in South Africa, while their drummer Alan Bogan still lives in his hometown Shaw, near Oldham.

dooleyfan- I just did exactly the same thing as you! Posted an answer and thought it hadn't worked because it went onto the next page...a bit thick, aren't we?
cruthinboy. I have seen Elbow live 4 times now, and I have to say Guy Garvey the lead singer is one of the funniest frontmen i have ever seen. He gets a rapport with the crowd everytime (in smaller venues anyway) and has a fantastic charm about him. a very talented band.
Yeah Scarlets, but he's a bit of a porker isn't he (-;? Dooleyfan - I knew there was a Manc connection!
Ben Folds Five / Ben Folds Beach Boys (after the surf hits) / Brian Wilson
basically any band/singer that we like that isnt as successful as we all think. for me the datsuns and jimmy eat world spring to mind
My tuppence worth: Amsterdam - Merseyside/Cheshire rock 'n' roll band - great on CD, awesome live Pele - early 90s forerunners to Amsterdam Ed Harcourt Matthew Jay - tragically now deceased Maria McKee - fine set of lungs, with a voice that conveys far more genuine emotion than the Whitneys and Mariahs of this world Wah/The Mighty Wah/anything to do with Pete Wylie The Drifters - no, really. You can keep yer Levi Stubbs and yer Smokey Robinson, Johnny Moore was the man! Half Man Half Biscuit The Sleepy Jackson - slightly oddball Aussie tunesmiths British Sea Power - slightly oddball British tunesmiths Bettye Swann - horrendously underrated late 60s/early 70s soul diva. Oh, and applause to fiferboy for mentioning Shivaree.
the original, gravy train of the 70,s great rock band
