The best?

What is the best vacuum cleaner. I have a Henry at the moment but he doesn't have spinning brushes, like you get on an upright. I need these spinning, beating brushes as there are four long-haired people in our family. You can get some cylinders with beating brushes I understand. Basically I need a really powerful but not to noisy vacuum. I tried looking on WHICH but you have to subscribe to WHICH for information.

It is not an upright but a cylinder, which have much more power anyway. Mine is an electronic revolution 5000 which has an electronic head. This means that I can have it as an ordinary vacuum or switch on the electronic vacuum which is so much more powerful.
If in doubt go down to your local John Lewis store, they are very knowledgeable about the products they sell.

Thanks Daffy. No, it doesn't have to be a cylinder. I have had a Dyson before and didn't get on with it. I've just been looking through other people's vacuum cleaner questions and noticed that with Dysons, people either love them or hate them. SeboX4 seems to keep coming up as a good one, but people are saying don't get it from John Lewis as it's cheaper elsewhere. But I don't know where to try to find it?

According to a Which report the Miele TT5000 is the best vacuum around. I was a Dyson fan until my Dyson packed in after 5 years of normal usage. My parent's Dyson too packed in after a similar period of time again through a normal usage pattern. I was in John Lewis about to purchase another Dyson when I came across the Miele range. I couldn't make up my mind so thought I'd ask the sales chappy. Usually these people are simply doing a job with no interest but this guy was a young student who obviously applied studying to his part time job. He pulled out a Which report from his pocket and showed me that out of 5 vacuums tested, the Dyson came a poor 5th in various measures, whilst the Miele came out top. I was sold and can happliiy say that this is a gem of a vacuum. It has great suction, is light, ergonomic and has a build quality like no other.
Hope this helps.

I have the Miele Cat & Dog TT5000 and trust me, this thing is SERIOUS!!! It has different settings so it can either be very quiet or to be honest VERY loud to the point where I dont hear the phone ring. Other than the noise though its fab fab fab, my dogs maults unbelievably and when I go over with the Miele there isnt a dog hair in sight.....
