American Airlines quote between about 13 hours and 17 hours from Gatwick to Memphis, via either Dallas or Chicago. Return flights are typically around 2 hours quicker.

try and avoid changing in Chicago, I found the airport very confusing, you have to change terminals for Memphis and staff unhelpful, we had a lady in a wheelchair and we had to collect 3 suitcases and go through customs & immigration - no help- and then take the 3 cases + 3 pieces of hand luggage+medication bag to another terminal via a link train and check back in for the Memphis flight. It was nightmare. never again.

They quote the fastest time - via Chicago O'Hare - as 11 hrs 25mins but as this is the fastest, I'm sure Chris's answer above is probably nearer the general reality.
