2 Answers
Hi all, to those of you experienced with dogs I would like to ask your advice on whats the best way to make an outdoor toilet area? We have aquired 2 gorgeous husky x lab puppies (8wks+)and have been housetraining them (or trying to!) They will go to the loo outside when they are running round but we have a 1 yr old so any ideas on the best way to keep the doggy poop to one area would be very gratefuly received!! We are thinking of fencing an area off and concreting it so they just go in there and not all over the grass. Is this possible??!! I hope so,lol! Many many thanks in advance :O)

Cant offer any tips for getting them to go in one area, as although I did train some collies to not 'go' on a grassed area at our other house, I think you may find this difficult at this stage. All you can do is to take them out when they need to empty themselves and put them on the area you want them to do it on, and give them plenty of praise. Irrelevant of where our dogs 'go' I get it up straight away as I think there is nothing worse than seeing dog poop around the place anyway.
As to them going on concrete, you may have trouble with that too as majority of dogs do like grass, especially bitches. Mine have to go out walking twice a day to do whatever they need, as one 'doesnt do slabs/concrete' and another one will only go a piece of astro turf I got when they were re laying some tennis courts, in fact, that wouldnt be a bad idea if you could get hold of some astro turf for them to 'go' on, as it is easy to clean and disinfect.
Still think you are mad though, dont take this the wrong way, but I wouldnt have sold you two dogs with a one year old, and husky's are very difficult for an inexperienced owner, I wouldnt worry too much about the lawn, as give it three months and it will be all mud anyway, as you cant keep them out of the garden to play. and husky's are very rarely let off the lead in public places as they just run and run and run, and you wont get them back. good luck !!

My last lab would always use one part of the garden When a pup we used to say 'get it done' to her when she was going to the toilet then we would take her to that part of the garden we wanted her to use on the lead let her off and say 'get it done' through practise she eventually took herself there. It was very useful when taking her out in the car like a child we could get her to empty herself before getting in the car. Going on holiday we could stop off and again tell her what was expected Good Luck
