I.E add ons disabled

my step dad was here the other day fiddling on the pc. when i clicked on i.e this morning it comes up add ons disabled. can anyone tell me what this means and why it is doing it? any help appreciated x

Click on Tools at the top right of the screen

Then click 'manage add ons' and enable.
