bankrupt at my address??
6 Answers
We have just accidently opened some post that arrived at our home.
Didnt realise until we read it that its addressed to the previous occupiers (some 14 years ago)
The letter is from Halifax stating that they have just dicovered that these people have just been made bankrupt and have to cancel the account that they have.
Halifax dont really want to know, the people are still using our address for an account (but we've never had any mail for them so we had no idea) and we want to make sure that our address isnt blacklisted as we are applying for a mortgage soon.
Any ideas how we can resolve this???

Don't worry. The mortgage is for you and will be based on your credit history. The address isn't blacklisted, just the previous owners.
We bought this house without knowing the extent of the 2 previous occupiers owing thousands and thousands to banks and credit cards and catalogues.
The occasional letters still come through, we have stopped the post office delivering to this address in those previous names and they just RTS them.
Go to the post office and stop post coming to your address in their name.
Best o'luck on your new adventures with housey buying :)

If another letter does come? write a very clear letter back to them stating they have the wrong address.
Ring these guys and explain your situation, they'll guide you in the right direction.

Don't worry. It's not your problem ok? it's just the last address the Halifax probably has.
Thank you for yesterday hon btw :) xxx

ah youre welcome, mind you we jhavnt got your address and brother is still wrapped up and covered in stamps ready for posting.
Thanks for the advice. We are now talking to the OR who dealt with it as the official details in the gazette are that she is 'lately residing at' our address. I presume that means as its written and that she is most recently at this address?
